Jeet Kune Do in its pure and original form is made of three martial art base systems and this has been confirmed at last by the Lee Foundation after many years of debate by both camps, the original vs. concepts. Jeet Kune Do translated from Mandarin Chinese means Way of the Intercepting Fist and is shortened into JKD.

The core base system is the art that Bruce Lee grew up with, Wing Chun Gung Fu, known as Beautiful Springtime. The footwork base is from French Fencing that was modified with some movement fundamentals from Wing Chun. The punching moves came from American Boxing as Lee respected the phenomenal boxing skills of the legendary Heavy Weight Champion Muhammad Ali.

Lee was the first to modify the traditional arts, taking what was useful and discarding the rest. For doing this he has been called the father of Mixed Martial Arts, but the Lee family say that this is not the case since MMA is a sport and JKD is a fight.
